Dr. Laura Wathen is originally from the small town of Bardstown, Kentucky. Her dental studies began as she completed an undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree at Western Kentucky University, and was awarded summa cum laude status and “Scholar of the College”. She then continued her education at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where she earned her DMD degree in 2016.

Dr. Wathen remained in the top 5% of her class through all four years of dental school. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Alpha Omega Scholarship Award, which is presented to the student who was considered valedictorian in the graduating class. She went on to pursue her dental career in southern Alabama, practicing in Fairhope and Saraland for a total of 8 years.

During her time in southern Alabama, she gained experience in many dental techniques including cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign, root canal therapy, and extractions. She continued to maintain her education through participation in the Eastern Shore Spear Study Club and the Baldwin County Study Club.

In 2024, Dr. Wathen chose to move north and now resides in Liberty Park with her four dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, painting, and enjoying the unique restaurants of Birmingham.
